Upward Correction Possible But Bias Still Bearish
Over the past two weeks, the US dollar has surged across the board. And, considering this currency has stood as the primary funding currency to a burgeoning carry trade, it makes sense that the greenback’s performance could be interpreted as a sign that risk appetite is toppling. However, cause and effect do not connect here – at least not yet. Instead risk trends have extended the congestion that has set in since October/November; and the period of consolidation has allowed the world’s reserve currency correct speculative and fundamental extremes on its own. Yet, that should not be taken to mean that investor optimism, and the leveraged positioning it has encouraged, will not go uncontested.

Speculative Positions are Short Euros
Speculators are short the Euros for the first time since early in 2009. This is a bullish sign for the US dollar.
The COT Index is the percentile of the difference between net speculative positioning and net commercial positioning measured over a specific number of weeks (13). A reading close to 0 is bearish if the currency in question has reversed from a uptrend and is bullish if the currency has been declining for a significant amount of time. A reading close to 100 is bullish if the currency in question has reversed from a downtrend and is bearish if the currency has been rallying for a significant amount of time.
Readings of 95 and higher as well as 5 and lower are in boldfaced red type to indicate potential market extremes. For example, an increasing index is bullish until the index is extreme (near 100), at which time the risk of a reversal or pause in the trend increases.

Too many times I hear about new traders opening a trade using the 5-minute chart (not my favorite approach) and when the market moves against them, they move to the 15-minute chart to justify staying in a little longer, hoping that the market will turn around.
Placing Stops and Limits
I'm a bit fuzzy on 'Stops'. Not sure if it's covered later in class however I've only used 'Limits' during my time in the Demo environment thus far.When you place a 'Stop', do you give it an exact amount to stop the trade at? Or do you specify how many PIPs? You are correct...it will be covered later but just to provide you with an overview, take a look at the chart below... The black line labeled Entry represents the point the trade will be entered short. The pair will be sold at that point as it broke through a level of support. The Stop, the red line, will be placed just above a previous level of resistance. The Limit, the green line, will be placed at roughly double the amount of the stop so that a 1:2 Risk Reward Ratio is in place on the trade.
